Undercover Boss

I watched a
great programme the other day with my family. It’s called Undercover Boss. Some
of you may have seen it. It features the CEO of a large company putting on a disguise
and working as a low level employee of his own business to see how his workers
get on.
In the episode
I saw, Todd Pederson, CEO of Vivint (a large tech company in the US) don long
hair and a fake beard to work undercover alongside others.
He was shocked
to see that Ed wasn’t given the correct protective equipment to work on a roof,
Alma didn’t have enough support in the warehouse, and one employee Will wasn’t
given any time off work when his wife faced cancer surgery.
His time as
undercover boss allowed him to make some changes to how the company functioned,
and he was willing personally to pay thousands of dollars to alleviate certain
situations of suffering that he found his new friends in, including legal
battles, hospital treatment, and for one family helping them to purchase a new house and a
new car.
Well I love the
concept of Undercover Boss, because it’s actually a good analogy of what
Christians believe. When Jesus became a baby in the manger in Bethlehem, the CEO
of the universe, the one who made the stars and planets, stepped down into our
world as one of us.
Jesus existed as
God before the creation of the world. But though he was 100% God he also became
100% man and stepped down into our world as a Jew in Palestine 2000 years ago. Many
people didn’t recognise him. But a few who did saw that he could be none other than
the big Boss of all. He supported the little people, he stood up for the downcast,
and he personally shouldered the cost of the sins of the world.
Todd Pederson paid
thousands of dollars to support the people he came amongst, Jesus Christ paid the
ultimate price to die to bring us back to God.
Undercover
Boss. Not a bad illustration for Jesus Christ. Have you realised who he is? And do you know him personally?
Thanks for
listening.
