Let's Get Physical

I’ve got a question for all of you – why are you up so early? Maybe you’re having your breakfast, maybe you’ve just taken the kids to school, maybe you’re on your way to work, maybe you’re already at work, like Mark hosting the show. Or maybe for some of you, you’ve just got back from a morning gym session.

Ok, maybe that’s not so many of you, but I reckon a lot of us do go to the gym, or do some form of exercise at some point in our week, I personally like going running, but admittedly not really at 8am…

Well whatever you do, you’ve probably got a goal of some sort. You might be trying to stay fit, to get in shape, or to build up to run a marathon, or to be able to lift heavier and heavier weights. It’s all some sort of training.

And did you know that the Bible says that’s a good thing to do? 1 Timothy 4v8 says “Physical training has some value”. The Bible, God’s word says that it’s good to do a bit of exercise! So if you enjoy a bit of exercise, thank God for it! Thank God for your body that can run 10 kilometres, or get that bike up the hill, or do 50 squats or whatever it is! Praise God for creating our bodies and all they can do!

But this verse goes on to tell us that there’s something better than physical training – “Physical training has some value, but godliness has value for all things”. Godliness, that’s living God’s way, in response to what he’s done for us!

Physical training isn’t going to last, even Olympic athletes get old, and get less fit, and our bodies get tired. But godliness lasts forever, because if you know Jesus, your relationship with God lasts forever. And the first step to godliness is knowing Jesus and understanding what he’s done for you. So why not make that step today. Even better than physical training!

Thanks for listening, have a great day!
