Reacting to the Huntingdon Train incident 01NOV25
We are all coming to terms with the shocking news of the events that unfolded near and at Huntingdon station last night. Our hearts go out to all involved, and we continue to pray for healing for those who were injured, particularly the individual who is still in critical care, a member of LNER staff, who according to the BBC website acted with great heroism to protect others. What an extraordinarily sacrificial and Christlike thing to do.
You might like to listen to our prayers at church this morning, led by Kendi M'Marate, a member of our congregation. Click here. She led us through a time of prayer and quiet beautifully.
Please pray for the station staff and first responders. On behalf of CCH, I went down to the station this afternoon (photos above) to take some flowers and some "Heroes" chocolates to give to the staff, both police and station staff, with a message to say that we are praying for them. One of the police said that staff on duty last night had of course been very shaken up. I met someone later in the afternoon at our Carpenters Arms service whose nephew had been on the train but had escaped unharmed.
More news will unfold about the motives for this attack as time goes on, but it is unhelpful to speculate at this stage. What we do know is that we live in a broken world, and all of our hearts are deeply affected by selfishness and sin. What a wonderful thing that into the suffering, Christ came to rescue. Here is the song that we sang this morning "Turn your eyes upon Jesus".
If anyone in the Huntingdon area needs someone to talk to, please get in contact.
With love from Charlie.
